About Bridge

Bridge is the greatest card game of all, and it can provide immense challenge and enjoyment for the rest of your life.

Research has shown that Bridge is excellent for developing concentration and problem-solving skills. It's also a very social game, so a good way to make new friends.

The game of Bridge has two main parts: the Bidding (also called the Auction) and the Play.

The most common comment that you hear from Bridge players is “I have been playing for X years and I am still learning”. There are 635 billion different possible bridge hands so each hand that you play will be unique.

Bridge Lessons

As Bridge is more complicated than other card games, it is advisable to attend a series of beginners lessons before playing at the club. The ”Introduction to Bridge” training sessions are across 10 sessions.

These sessions use materials supplied by the NZ Bridge as the Waitemata Bridge Club is affiliated to NZ Bridge.

The lessons are run at the Bridge Club Rooms and are in the following format:

·        The lessons run for 10 weeks

·        Each lesson is approximately two hours in length

·        The first 30 odd minutes is theory

·        The rest of the time will be playing cards so that there is learning while playing.

·        The cost is $30 per person.

·        There is homework between each session.

Bridge lessons are run periodically throughout the year depending on the availability of students and instructors.
